Hasselblad Lens XCD 2.5 90mm II
71mm Equivalent Moderate Telephoto - The Classic Portrait Perspective
The 71mm full-frame equivalent focal length of the XCD 2,5/90V sits in the sweet spot for portrait photography: far enough from the subject to avoid unflattering wide-angle distortion, close enough to maintain a natural working distance in the studio or on location. This perspective produces the gentle facial compression and natural proportions that have defined classic portrait photography for generations. It is equally effective for close-up still life work, product photography, and any situation where precise subject isolation and natural rendering are the priority.
f/2.5 Aperture with Beautiful Soft Bokeh
At f/2.5, the XCD 2,5/90V produces an exceptionally smooth and natural background separation. The combination of medium format sensor size, 90mm focal length, and f/2.5 aperture creates a shallow depth of field and a bokeh quality that draws the viewer's attention completely to the subject. The out-of-focus areas render with the characteristic smoothness and dimensionality that is unique to medium format optics - something impossible to replicate with full-frame or smaller format cameras at the same equivalent settings.
Hallmark Eight-Point Starburst Effect
When stopped down to narrower apertures, the XCD 2,5/90V produces Hasselblad's signature eight-point starburst on bright point light sources - a visual signature created by the leaf shutter blade geometry that is immediately recognisable in fine art portrait and studio photography.
Apochromatic Design with Large-Diameter Aspherical Element
The XCD 2,5/90V uses nine elements in six groups, including one ED element and one specially made large-diameter aspherical element. The carefully arranged optical structure achieves an apochromatic effect, meaning all wavelengths of light are focused to the same point on the sensor - producing images with exceptional colour accuracy, freedom from chromatic aberration, and the truest colour rendition available from a telephoto lens in the X System. The large-diameter aspherical element provides correction that would be impossible with conventional spherical glass, maintaining consistent sharpness from centre to corner at every aperture across the full medium format frame.
Upgraded Large-Aperture Leaf Shutter to 1/4000s
The XCD 2,5/90V features an upgraded large-aperture leaf shutter that achieves 1/4000s - the fastest shutter speed among medium format lenses. This enables full flash synchronisation at every shutter speed from 68 minutes to 1/4000s, providing creative freedom that no focal plane shutter system can match. In practical terms, this means shooting portraits outdoors in full sun with flash at f/2.5 to separate the subject from a darkened background, or freezing fast-moving subjects with flash at any aperture. Despite its large aperture, the upgraded shutter is designed to be fast and quiet, minimising disturbance during shooting.
11% Lighter Than the XCD 3,2/90
The XCD 2,5/90V weighs 551g, which is 11% lighter than the previous XCD 3,2/90 it effectively replaces in the V series lineup, while offering a wider maximum aperture. The compact optical design and lightweight focusing module keep the overall package manageable for extended portrait sessions without sacrificing any optical performance.
Push-Pull AF/MF Switching and Customisable Control Ring
The XCD 2,5/90V carries the full V series interface: a push-pull focus ring that switches between autofocus and full-time manual focus with a visible distance scale and depth of field markings, and a customisable control ring assignable to ISO, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, face switching, or N/A. Both rings are precision-engraved with the Hasselblad H logo pattern using a 0.3mm drill bit, in the tradition of the classic HC/HCD lenses.
Linear Stepping Motor with PDAF for Fast, Accurate Autofocus
The upgraded focusing module uses a linear stepping motor driving a compact, lightweight internal focus group. Backlash is eliminated, and paired with the PDAF system of the X2D 100C or X2D II 100C, the result is fast, accurate, and silent focusing. Internal focusing keeps the lens dimensions constant at all focus distances, maintaining balance in the hand at every focus setting.
Compatible with All Hasselblad X System Cameras and 907X
The XCD 2,5/90V is fully compatible with the complete Hasselblad X System lineup including the X2D II 100C, X2D 100C, X1D II 50C, and the 907X + CFV digital back combination. A 77mm filter thread accommodates all standard 77mm filters.
