Lightest and Smallest Lens in the Hasselblad X System
At just 245g and 43.5mm in length, the XCD 4/28P is the lightest and most compact lens Hasselblad has ever built for the X System. Its metal body carries the signature Hasselblad design language, including a focus ring delicately engraved with the Hasselblad H pattern - a detail that makes clear this is no compromise lens despite its size. For photographers who want to carry serious medium format capability without the weight, the 28P defines what is possible.
Advanced 9-Element Optical Design for 100MP Performance
The XCD 4/28P uses a sophisticated optical structure of nine elements in eight groups, incorporating two aspherical elements and one ED (extra-low dispersion) element. The aspherical elements eliminate spherical aberration and control distortion across the wide field of view, while the ED element effectively suppresses chromatic dispersion across all wavelengths. The result is sharp, high-resolution imaging from centre to edge that fully exploits the resolving power of Hasselblad's 100-megapixel sensors - no softness in the corners, no colour fringing.
Leaf Shutter with 1/4000s Flash Sync - The Fastest in the XCD Range
The XCD 4/28P features a built-in central leaf shutter with a speed range from 68 minutes all the way to 1/4000s - the highest flash sync speed available in any XCD lens. This makes it uniquely capable for balancing flash with strong ambient light: shoot wide open at f/4 outdoors and still use a fast enough shutter speed to overpower the sun with a Profoto or Nikon TTL flash. The leaf shutter also generates significantly reduced vibration compared to focal plane shutters, producing cleaner results at any speed.
Linear Stepping Motor with PDAF for Fast, Accurate Autofocus
The XCD 4/28P uses a linear stepping motor driving a compact, lightweight internal focus group. When paired with the phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) system of the X2D 100C or X2D II 100C, the result is fast, accurate, and silent focusing that reaches the correct focus position and stops with precision. This makes the 28P equally capable for decisive moment street photography as it is for deliberate landscape or architectural work. Internal focusing keeps the lens dimensions constant at all focus distances.
22cm Minimum Focus Distance and 1:6 Magnification
Despite being a wide-angle lens designed for expansive scenes, the XCD 4/28P focuses down to just 22cm with a maximum image scale of 1:6. This brings close-up photography within reach: flowers, food, products, and texture details can all be captured with compelling perspective and the full resolution of the medium format sensor behind it.
Full-Time Manual Focus Override
A mechanically connected focus ring provides full-time manual focus override at any point, regardless of whether autofocus is active. Precise manual control is always available for situations that demand it.
Compatible with All Hasselblad X System Cameras
The XCD 4/28P is fully compatible with the complete Hasselblad X System lineup including the X2D II 100C, X2D 100C, X1D II 50C, and the 907X + CFV digital back combination. A 72mm filter thread accommodates all standard 72mm filters including polarisers, ND filters, and UV filters.
