20mm Equivalent Ultra-Wide Field of View - Built for Night
The 20mm full-frame equivalent focal length and 95° diagonal angle of view make the XCD 2,5/25V the widest lens in the XCD range. It is designed specifically to excel where wide lenses are most needed: nocturnal cityscapes with expansive foreground, astrophotography where the horizon must be captured alongside the sky, vast interiors where a standard wide lens cannot encompass the full space, and environmental portraits where the surrounding context is as important as the subject. The wider you go, the more light and shadow interplay becomes the subject itself - and the XCD 2,5/25V is built to capture that interplay in extraordinary detail.
f/2.5 Aperture for Exceptional Low-Light Performance
At f/2.5, the XCD 2,5/25V is the largest aperture ultra-wide lens available in the Hasselblad X System. Combined with the large medium format sensor area, this aperture provides a substantial advantage in low-light environments over anything else in the XCD range at this focal length. In practical terms, this means shooting stars, candle-lit interiors, city streets at night, and golden hour landscapes with lower ISO settings, faster shutter speeds, and more dynamic range preserved in every file. Even in bright conditions, the f/2.5 aperture provides creative subject separation that few wide-angle lenses can produce at this focal length.
13-Element Optical Design with Four Aspherical and Three ED Elements
Correcting aberration across a 95° field of view at f/2.5 is an extraordinary optical engineering challenge. The XCD 2,5/25V meets it with a 13-element optical structure in 10 groups, incorporating four aspherical elements and three ED elements - the most complex optical design of any lens in the XCD V series. The four aspherical elements control spherical aberration, field curvature, coma, and distortion across the entire wide field. The three ED elements aggressively suppress chromatic dispersion, preventing colour fringing even at the extreme corners of the medium format frame. The result is sharp, crisp, high-contrast imaging from centre to edge, with vibrant and accurate colours, fully meeting the resolution demands of Hasselblad's 100-megapixel sensors.
Proprietary Large-Diameter Leaf Shutter - 1/4000s and Full Flash Sync
The XCD 2,5/25V uses a proprietary large-diameter, high-speed leaf shutter module whose aperture area is 2.44 times larger than that of the XCD 2,5/55V. This larger shutter enables a maximum speed of 1/4000s, one full stop faster than the 1/2000s maximum of the other V series lenses, and maintains full flash synchronisation at all speeds. The practical implication is significant: shooting wide open at f/2.5 in full sunlight is possible with a fast enough shutter speed to control exposure, and flash can be used to freeze motion and control background exposure even in the brightest outdoor conditions. Note that the larger shutter generates more audible sound and vibration than smaller leaf shutters, though this has no impact on image quality.
Push-Pull AF/MF Switching and Customisable Control Ring
The XCD 2,5/25V shares the refined V series control interface: a push-pull focus ring that switches between autofocus and full-time manual focus with an engraved distance scale and depth of field markings visible in MF mode, and a customisable control ring that can be set to control ISO, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, face switching, or N/A. Both rings carry the Hasselblad H logo engraving, and the lens body features the V series insignia. The design balances Hasselblad's classic aesthetic with modern, intuitive operation.
Linear Stepping Motor with PDAF for Fast Autofocus
The XCD 2,5/25V uses a linear stepping motor driving a compact, lightweight internal focus group. Paired with the PDAF system of the X2D 100C or X2D II 100C, the result is fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus that settles precisely at the correct focus position. Internal focusing means the lens dimensions remain constant regardless of focus distance.
25cm Minimum Focus Distance for Creative Close-Up Work
With a minimum focus distance of just 25cm from the image plane and a maximum image scale of 1:5.8, the XCD 2,5/25V offers surprisingly capable close-up performance. The combination of 20mm equivalent perspective and close focus produces dramatic near-far compositions where foreground elements are rendered large and sharp while the background stretches away into the distance - a technique particularly effective in food photography, architectural detail, and landscape work.
Compatible with All Hasselblad X System Cameras and 907X
The XCD 2,5/25V is fully compatible with all Hasselblad X System cameras including the X2D II 100C, X2D 100C, X1D II 50C, and the 907X + CFV digital back combination. Note that the lens includes sealing at the seams but is not rated for dust or water resistance - avoid use in dusty or wet conditions. A 72mm filter thread accommodates all standard 72mm filters.
