Hasselblad XCD 2,8-4/35-100E Lens
28-76mm Equivalent Zoom - Seven Primes in One Lens
The XCD 2,8-4/35-100E covers 28mm ultra-wide through 76mm medium telephoto with approximately 3x optical zoom. Hasselblad describes this as effectively combining the range of seven prime lenses into a single body. In practice, this means a landscape photographer can capture an expansive wide-angle view at 28mm, switch to a natural standard perspective at 43mm, and compress into a flattering portrait focal length at 76mm - all in a single uninterrupted shooting session without touching a lens bag. Compared to the XCD 3,5-4,5/35-75 zoom, the 35-100E extends the telephoto reach further while offering a significantly wider f/2.8 maximum aperture at the wide end.
f/2.8 Maximum Aperture - The Brightest XCD Zoom
At f/2.8 at the wide end, the XCD 2,8-4/35-100E is a full stop brighter than the previous XCD 3,5-4,5/35-75 zoom. This translates directly into better performance in low light, faster achievable shutter speeds at the same ISO, and smoother background separation. At 35mm with f/2.8, the lens produces creamy bokeh that few zoom lenses can match, let alone a medium format zoom. As focal length increases through the zoom range, the aperture grades to f/4 at 100mm - still a respectable working aperture for a lens of this zoom ratio.
Flagship E Series Optical Design - 16 Elements with Five ED Elements
The "E" in XCD 2,8-4/35-100E stands for Exclusive, denoting Hasselblad's top tier of optical performance for zoom lenses. The sophisticated optical structure uses 16 elements in 13 groups, incorporating 3 aspherical elements and 5 extra-low dispersion (ED) elements - the most ED glass elements of any XCD lens. The aspherical elements control aberration and field curvature across the full zoom range. The five ED elements aggressively suppress chromatic dispersion at every focal length and aperture setting. The result is edge-to-edge sharpness and authentic colour that matches the standard of Hasselblad's prime lenses, regardless of where in the zoom range you are shooting.
Fastest Stepping Motor in the XCD Lineup with AF-C Support
The XCD 2,8-4/35-100E is powered by the most advanced stepping motor in the entire XCD lens range, driving a compact internal focus group with precisely tuned control algorithms. When paired with the X2D II 100C's AF-C continuous autofocus and subject detection system, the lens confidently tracks moving subjects - people, vehicles, animals - delivering sharp frames at the decisive moment. This is the first XCD zoom fully optimised for continuous autofocus tracking, making it the obvious choice for any X System photographer shooting moving subjects.
1/4000s Leaf Shutter with Full Flash Sync Across the Entire Zoom Range
The built-in leaf shutter covers the full range from 68 minutes to 1/4000s with full flash synchronisation at every speed throughout the entire zoom range. This means fill flash outdoors at f/2.8 in full sunlight is achievable without any compromise, whether shooting at 35mm or 100mm. The leaf shutter design also generates significantly lower vibration than focal plane shutters, producing cleaner results in any handheld or tripod situation.
Three Rings - Focus, Zoom, and Customisable Control
The XCD 2,8-4/35-100E features three rings: a focus ring for push-pull AF/MF switching with full-time manual focus override, a zoom ring for smooth focal length adjustment, and a customisable control ring that can be set to ISO, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, or face switching. This interface is inherited from the XCD V series, making it instantly familiar to existing X System users.
Precision-Forged Metal Body
The lens body is crafted from precision-forged metal with Hasselblad's characteristic minimalist design. It includes sealing at the seams but is not rated for dust or water resistance, so use in dusty or wet conditions is not recommended.
Compatible with All Hasselblad X System Cameras and 907X
The XCD 2,8-4/35-100E is fully compatible with all Hasselblad X System cameras and the 907X + CFV digital back combination. AF-C continuous autofocus requires the X2D II 100C and compatible lens firmware. An 86mm filter thread accommodates the new Hasselblad 86mm UV, ND8, and CPL filters launched alongside this lens, as well as any standard 86mm filter.
