Hasselblad XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E
The Widest Lens in the Hasselblad X System
At 20mm (16mm full-frame equivalent) at the wide end, the XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E is the widest focal length available in the entire Hasselblad XCD system. With a 108° diagonal angle of view, it captures a field of view that no other X System lens can reach - encompassing entire rooms in a single frame, placing vast mountain ranges in full context, and creating the dramatic near-far perspective compression that defines ultra-wide-angle landscape and architectural photography at its best.
16-27mm Equivalent Zoom Range for Versatile Ultra-Wide Coverage
The zoom range spans 20-35mm (16-27mm equivalent), covering the ultra-wide and wide-angle spectrum in a single lens. This is the territory between extreme ultra-wide landscape capture and the moderately wide perspective used for environmental portraiture and reportage. Having both extremes in one lens gives photographers meaningful compositional flexibility without requiring a lens change - tighten the frame slightly at 35mm to remove unwanted foreground, or go full ultra-wide at 20mm to tell the whole story of a location.
f/3.2 Maximum Aperture - Widest Aperture at This Focal Range in the X System
At f/3.2, the XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E offers the largest aperture available in the Hasselblad medium format system at an ultra-wide focal length. This matters most in architectural and interior photography where artificial light is the only source, and in landscape photography at dawn and dusk when ambient light is low. The f/3.2 aperture provides a meaningful advantage in exposure latitude compared to f/4 wide-angle alternatives, allowing faster shutter speeds, lower ISO settings, and more retained detail in challenging light.
E Series Optical Design - 16 Elements with Four ED Elements
The E designation stands for Exclusive, representing the top tier of optical performance in the XCD zoom lens lineup. The XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E uses 16 elements in 12 groups, incorporating three aspherical elements and four extra-low dispersion (ED) elements. The aspherical elements control the inherent geometric distortion and aberration across the 108° field of view - a significant challenge at ultra-wide focal lengths. The four ED elements aggressively suppress chromatic dispersion, eliminating colour fringing at the corners where ultra-wide lenses are most susceptible. The result is sharp, high-resolution imaging from centre to edge at every focal length, delivering the image quality that the full resolving power of 100-megapixel sensors demands. Note: distortion correction is available automatically in Phocus and in supported image processing software, but is not applied in-camera.
Stepping Motor with Gearbox Drive for Smooth, Accurate Autofocus
The XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E uses a stepping motor paired with a gearbox-based focusing drive and a small, lightweight focusing lens group. This combination ensures accurate and quiet control of the focus position in both autofocus and manual focus modes. When paired with the PDAF system of the X2D 100C or X2D II 100C, focusing is faster and more responsive for a wide-angle zoom of this specification.
Leaf Shutter with Full Flash Sync to 1/2000s Across the Zoom Range
The built-in leaf shutter provides full flash synchronisation at every speed from 68 minutes to 1/2000s throughout the entire zoom range. This enables creative flash use in any lighting condition at any focal length - balancing ambient and flash exposure for interior architecture, adding fill flash in harsh outdoor light, or using off-camera flash to illuminate foreground subjects against a properly exposed wide sky. The leaf shutter design also generates significantly lower vibration than focal plane shutters.
Two Rings - Focus and Zoom with H Logo Engraving
The XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E features a focus ring and a zoom ring, both engraved with the Hasselblad H logo. The focus ring provides full-time manual focus override at any point regardless of whether autofocus is active. Note that unlike the V series lenses, this lens does not include a customisable control ring.
Metal Body with Ergonomic Design
The lens body is crafted from metal with Hasselblad's characteristic subtle and timeless design aesthetic. It is designed to be stable, reliable, and ergonomic for extended shooting sessions. It includes sealing at the seams but is not rated for dust or water resistance - avoid use in dusty or wet conditions.
Compatible with All Hasselblad X System Cameras and 907X
The XCD 3,2-4,5/20-35E is fully compatible with the complete Hasselblad X System lineup including the X2D II 100C, X2D 100C, X1D II 50C, and the 907X + CFV digital back combination. A 77mm filter thread accommodates all standard 77mm filters.
